The Armando w/Cody Dearing
Mondays at 6:30 pm
October 15, 2018 - November 15, 2018
PREREQUISITE: To register for this class you must have completed level 3 of our improv training program.
The Armando is a popular improv form where true stories are deconstructed and used to inspire improvised scenes.
Many theaters have a flagship Armando show (Fuck This Week, ASSSSSCAT) because it is a great way for audiences to see improvisers pulling ideas from a source and creating scenes on the fly.
This 4 week workshop introduces improvisers to the Armando, and uses the form to workshop specific improv skills including:
- How to deconstruct something to pull scene ideas from it.
- How to initiate a scene, and how to respond in a way that helps keep scenes focused and “clean”.
- How to work together as a group to heighten scenes toward a mutual goal.
- The importance of making things specifically worse”.
And a number of other necessary skills (straight/absurd, callbacks, etc.) that aid in the performance of a successful Armando.
Whether you’re brand new to the form, or you’re a salty old pro who needs a kick in your soggy bottom, join us for our intensive study of the Armando.
This class meets weekly for 4 weeks on Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm starting Monday, October 15th.
Class will be held at Fallout Theater, located at 616 Lavaca St in downtown Austin.
Tuition is $125, and is due by the first day of class (Oct. 15th).
