Description
Are you looking to break into the world of solo comedy content creation but don’t know where to start? Are you feeling hesitant or embarrassed to put your ideas on Tiktok or Instagram? Join Greg Phelps, an experienced improviser, writer, and standup comic, in this workshop designed to give you the tools and confidence to start creating and posting solo content immediately.
Participants will be guided through exercises aimed at generating solo content ideas, writing comedic and character monologues, and crafting two-character scenes (played by yourself). Participants will also learn how to find their niche and overcome mental barriers related to creating and sharing content online. The workshop will also cover tips for quickly editing videos on a phone and include a discussion about how to increase your odds of getting lucky with the TikTok and Instagram algorithms.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have sketch and character ideas, proven tools for idea generation, and a greater sense of confidence and permission to share their sense of humor online. Participants will be asked to write, brainstorm (solo and as a group), and improvise with classmates, so come ready to write, collaborate, and have fun.
Please note that participants must bring a phone capable of recording audio and video, pen and paper (or a laptop), and have downloaded TikTok, CapCut, or another mobile video-editing app of their choice prior to the workshop. If time allows, participants will leave with a video ready-to-post.
Previous improv, standup, or sketch-writing experience is highly recommended.
