Sketch 101: Sketch Writing Basics (Tuesdays)

Pencils down? No, we say! Pencils UP! It’s time to write some sketch comedy!

Learn the basics of writing sketch comedy through a variety of in-class exercises, solo writing assignments, and collaborative group work. This course is our introduction to the basics of comedy writing. Students build skills their skills in creating characters, generating ideas for scenes, and honing those ideas so that they have a clear comedic game.

The course will be held at Fallout Theater, located at 616 Lavaca St in downtown Austin, and will consist of 8 weekly classes from 6:30pm-8:30pm. Students who complete Sketch 101 are eligible to enroll in Sketch 201.


  • Tuition is $250 and is due by the first day of class.

AMY KNOP (she/her) has been a prolific improv and sketch comedian in Austin since 2016 — including as the B. Iden Payne-nominated director of “My Own Worst Enemy”, “It’s Britney, Bitch”, “The Rose” and the producer of sold-out runs of “Angola,” “Old Love” and more. Since 2019, Amy has performed in and co-produced the weekly Saturday night runs of Sweet Lightning, Pioneers, and Come@Me at Fallout Theater. She also serves as managing festival director of Austin Sketch Fest. She loves the Austin comedy community and wants to welcome you into it!
