Description

The sketch comedy writers room: a room for sketch comedy writers!

Through the use of both solo writing assignments as well as collaborative group exercises students will further explore styles, genres, and other deeper mechanics of comedy writing in our Level 2 Sketch course. This class is designed to help writers find their voice and help students learn to connect their sketches into a cohesive show. After writing for 8 weeks students will create a first draft style of a show to produce on Fallout’s stage.

The course will be held at Fallout Theater, located at 616 Lavaca St in downtown Austin, and will consist of 8 weekly classes from 6:30pm-8:30pm and a class¬†show for your friends and family. Students who complete Sketch 201 are eligible to enroll in Sketch 301 and audition for Fallout Theater’s house sketch comedy team.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

JOHN GHOLSON is a sketch comedy veteran of troupes The Floor Is Lava and The Neighborhood, and recently appeared as four wildly different characters in the ColdTowne mainstage play Transplantic City. He wrote and directed the Austin Chronicle “Best of Austin: Best Comedy Troupe” nominee The Voyagers, and has on-screen acting credits with Adult Swim, AMC/Shudder, Nerdist, and NBC/Universal. Before the slow death of movie websites, John was a “Tomatometer Approved” film critic and writer, with bylines at AOL/HuffPo, Birth Movies Death, Fightland, and Fandango. John’s illustration work can be seen in Halloween Man comics, collaborations with recording artist Richard Cheese, and local comedy show posters at this very theater. He is a cat person.
